Research lines:
After 20 years of research activity on synthesis, structural, magnetic and spectroscopic characterization of new materials, (superconducting oxides and micro- and nanoporous catalysts), her current interests are focused on:

  • The development of new solid-state media for ultrafast (femtosecond) laser systems: crystal growth, crystal structure determination, crystal field analysis and modelling of electronic f-f transitions.
  • Preparation of micro- and nanocrystalline photonic materials, oxides and halides: hydro/solvothermal processing, sol-gel synthesis.

Recent projects as Team Leader and Coordinator:

  • Composites and photonic systems for the generation and conversion of coherent light. Micro and nanofabrication, 2008-2011, MAT2008-06729-C02-01, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation.
  • New infrared ultrafast and high power lasers.  Developments in materials, cavities and luminescent nanoprobes. 2012-2014, MAT 2011-29255-C02-01, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness.

Recent international projects as participant:

  • Development of Er-doped Double Tungstate (DW) single crystals for resonantly-pumped eye-safe cryo-cooled lasers, funded by the United States Army International Technology Center-Atlantic, USAITCA, Award No. W911NF–10-1-0234, 2010-2011
  • Double Tungstate Crystals: synthesis, characterization and applications, VI Framework Programme of the European Community, STREP, NMP3-CT-2003-505580.

Publications and other scientific documents: More than 175 peer-reviewed journal papers (among which six recent ones have been highlighted by Editors to be included in the Virtual Journal of Ultrafast Science, and 60 proceedings and chapters in books. More than 80 authored files corresponding to new compounds included at the Joint Committee on Powder Diffraction Standards (JCPDS) of the International Centre for Diffraction Data. Swarthmore, PA, USA, PCPDFWIN, and more than 70 crystallographic structures included at the Inorganic Crystal Structure Database ICSD-for-WWW, Fachinformationszentrum-Karlsruhe, Germany. 150 communications to international conferences. Inventor of 4 patents on micro- and nanoporous catalysts.
Supervision of Ph. D. students and teaching activity: 4 Ph.D. thesis on spectroscopic and laser properties of new femtosecond crystal lasers and preparation/development of photonic nanoparticles and composites (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Universitat Rovira i Virgili, Tarragona), and 3 Master degree or DEA diplomas.
